Production[]
Shot concurrently with "Pest Control", this was an attempt to increase Shadows production slate to two episodes per semester. Written by BU playwright and student Emma Tosch, it was the first episode (in the Agency run) commissioned and written by a writer outside the close-knit production team. Designed to be more minimalist and theatrical (and thus easier to shoot) the story was inspired by the controversy over military interrogation techniques.
Aesthetically, the studio-bound, closeup-heavy structure was modeled after "Once Upon a Time", the penultimate episode of Patrick McGoohan's 1968 television series The Prisoner, with homage paid to Carl Dryer's The Passion of Joan of Arc as well.
Filmed in Studio B with a single camera setup (Sony P-170's), it was shot relatively quickly. Locations used were Myles Standish Hall (basement corridor and stairwell) and Nicole Herrington's apartment. The break room, filmed in Herrington's living room, is also seen in "Pest Control".
Continuity[]
- Although he appears in voice, this is the first episode since episode 31 in which the character of Jakob Resh does not appear onscreen.
