Shadows Wiki

Apocalypse is episode 35 of Shadows, written by Justin K. Rivers. It is the last episode based in the original narrative continuity.

Plot[]

Jillian has been murdered, and now Reese, Jakob, and Maya alone must stop the evil President Hawthorn. Jakob meets Jack Flynn, Dani's replacement from The Agency. The friends are transported, via the magic amulet, to a portal in between worlds, where Hawthorn intends to rip open a gateway, allowing him to rule both over earth and the Shadow World. But Reese, Maya reveals, is the chosen one. He alone can stop it.

Production[]

Filmed on locations including Marsh Chapel (the murder scene and the showdown) and in the studio. This episode was the last to feature the multi-camera studio technique.

By 2004, it had become clear to the production team that the narrative format was creating problems that were insurmountable. The quick turnover of actors meant that characters had to be written out abruptly. This episode lost three actors. Rob O'Reilly, playing Tom, proved unavailable. The actress who played Jillian was abroad. The actress playing Dani left BU. A new format was needed, and thus The Agency was devised to replace the serial storyline format that proved so difficult.

Originally intended to be an FBI presence, the character Dani in the previous episode became a convenient jumping off point for inserting a private paranormal agency into the storyline. The production team decided to bring in another agent character (Jack Flynn) and use a current character (Jakob Resh) to bridge and reboot the series the following semester.

The "end of the world" footage intended in the script never came about, and thus the episode was completed sans greenscreen effects and stock footage.
